Information from Student Finance Wales for students going to university Autumn 2013

From 4 February 2013 onwards, pupils will be able to apply for their 2013/14 support online at www.studentfinancewales.co.uk. Prospective students are to be encouraged to apply online and as such, we only hold a very limited supply of paper publicity material. We will therefore not be providing you with a supply of paper application forms and you should advise your pupils to apply for their support online.

If any students wish to apply using a paper application, PN1 forms and supporting information may be downloaded from the above website. Alternatively, they may either ring Student Finance Wales (0845 6028845) or us (02920 872938) requesting a PN1 form or you may provide us with the names and addresses of pupils who require a PN1 form and we will post them an application pack.

We expect that the major area for concern for prospective students will again be the level of fees. However, whilst the maxium tuition fees for Welsh students undertaking courses in England or Wales will be £9000, the maximum tuition fee payable by the student will only be £3575, with the balance being paid to the University by the Student Loans Company in the form of a Welsh Tuition Fee Grant. Eg. £9000 tuition fee - £3575 fee payable by student (via a fee loan or upfront) and a Welsh Tuition Fee Grant of £5425 paid to the University by the SLC.

In addition, our student support team are available to answer any queries, either by ringing 02920 872938 or by emailing studentsupport@cardiff.gov.uk.
